Four Month-a-versary

Happy Fourth Month Jetta! That's right, on the 28th of September Jetta was born so as of the 28th of January she is 4 months old!!

Today went as all other days go. Jetta hasn't progressed to anything new, I like to make sure that a new command (the most recent being "other one" of course) really sinks in before trying to teach her anything else. I'm sure she would pick it up just as quickly with minimal confusion but it's just a personal preference of mine.

However her bothers, Cain and Taz, came to work with me today. (Taz being my gorgeous and glued to my hip Rottweiler x German Shepherd, Cain being my handsome, but not to bright (quiet idiotic to say the least) Catahoula x German Shepherd.) I am a groomer at a local pet grooming salon and my boys LOVE to pay around in doggy day care.

Sadly Jetta isn't allowed to go simply because of her breed. It would be pointless to take her so she could sit lone in a 'room' all day with nothing to do. Instead, she sits at home all day with nothing to do but harass the cats...which I'm pretty sure she enjoys immensely.

Though I do suppose the plans to take her on the family trip to Colorado (while the boys stay home) more then makes up for her not being able to come play 'grabby' with the other dogs.

Catch of the day!: For yesterday and today (27th & 28th), our local Petsmart is selling "collectible" Lucky & Chance plushies at a 2 for 1$ price. And I have to say...I bought 10! My dogs have SO much fun ripping, mutilating and gutting plush toys that ten for five dollars is a steal in this house, even if they only last a day.

How to confuse a pitbull....

Simple...be afraid of them.

Jetta was out for a walk today and came across the first person who has ever been completely afraid of her and/or hated her. When the woman almost screamed and then continued on to tell me how evil, vicious and blood thirsty my almost four month old puppy was. Before I could explain to her that not only was Jetta training for her CGC, she was becoming a therapy dog as well, the woman than proceeded to grab the hands of her children and storm off from my abomination The little boys wanted to pet Jetta -SO- badly and needless to say they will become the next generation of pit bull haters if their mother has anything to do with it.

Mean while Jetta is sitting at my feet, looking up at them with big, hopeful, brown eyes just begging to be petted. I truly think it confused her that they didn't coo over her like she has grown acustomed. However she did recover very quickly, and after another quizical look pranced along beside me like nothing even happened.

People like that really confuse me, but I have no doubt we will incounter more on our journey to prove that pits(or any bully breeds for that matter) are not ruthless killing machines.

Aside from that Jetta is the crazy weirdo she has always been. I keep forgetting how smart she is in between her training sessions, and remember agian when she picks something new up in under five minutes. We have now mastered the "Other one" command, which is shake only with her right paw and not her left. She is a bit slow on the up take, because I train to not only make her a better companion but to stimulate her mind as well. She 'figures it out' all on her own, but once she's figured it out she runs, bounds and leaps with it.

Needless to say she impresses a lot of people....hell...she impresses me as well!

Thank You for Joining Us

Early November of last year(2010), a litter of seven puppies found themselves on the euthanasia waiting list at a local high kill shelter. These little pups, only six weeks old at the time, where passed up over and over again because they where pit bulls and of course evil. There mother, a gorgeous, classic, red pitty girl who was only protecting her babies from strangers, was deemed un-adoptable and was euthanized herself.

After hearing their story and seeing their faces, it was decided that we would become the foster family to a cute band of pit bull TERRORIST (this term of course is used with all the love and affection it deserves ;) ) Dearing their fostering, we came across countless people who looked at them and then turned away because they where 'evil pit bulls'. I would like to remind everyone reading to punish the deed not the breed.

This blog, not only dedicated to pit bulls in general, is dedicated to the little terrorist who stole my heart and is now sleeping in my bed.

Jetta is an almost four month old red nosed pit bull from the litter of seven. She is currently in training to pass her CGC test, enter into therapy work and be a proper advocate for the bully breed where ever she goes.

She has already learned so many things in her short little life, she has learned:

-Recall: Basic coming when called

-Sit: Sit down of course

-Down: Lay down

-Shake: Shaking hand/paw

-Watch Me: Focus on me and what I am saying/doing

-Leave it: Stop what you are doing or leave what you have alone

and
-Sit/Stay: Sit on you butt and stay where you are until released

And Jetta is learning new things every single day.

Thank you for reading, and please join us on her journey in life.

Pit bull quote of the day: "Yeah I fear her vicious tongue coming after every inch of skin on my face. I will be n obituaries woman 23 survived by her husband, daughter, and dog. Cause of death cronic deathly licking. Pit Bull arrested for attack with deadly tongue. Sentence to be decided."
